Cathy Thompson Covill is a Riverside High School Class of ‘85 graduate. Her siblings are also RHS graduates: sister, Janice ‘83 and brother, Gordon ’89. Her mother was a school bus driver for Riverside schools and her father was fire chief in Painesville Township.
Cathy attended Kent State University, receiving her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and her Masters in Education. She currently teaches fifth grade in the Willoughby-Eastlake City schools. She previously taught career technical education in Hospitality Management to high school juniors and seniors at the Northern Career Institute in Willoughby, part of the Excel TECC consortium.
Prior to joining Willoughby-Eastlake Schools, Cathy substitute taught while working in the hospitality industry. Beginning as a server/bartender at the Madison Country Club, she worked into a supervising position and was assistant manager of the club, holding that position for fifteen years. Cathy also worked at The Kirtland Country Club, Shoreby Club, Canterbury Golf Club, Quaker Steak and Lube and The Lodge and Conference Center in Geneva.
Cathy was married to Bill Covill in 1992 until his passing in 2011. She currently resides in Painesville Township with her lovable Labrador Lola and feisty rescue pup Piper.
“After having the opportunity to be a committee member in the planning of several class reunions, I am excited to join the alumni association and hope to contribute to the growth of membership,” Cathy said after her unanimous election by the alumni membership in attendance at the meeting on June 14, 2021.
