Growing Organization Has Growing Needs
As the Riverside Alumni Association continues to grow, so does its need for more people to help with events and functions. We have a couple of immediate needs for volunteers and committee chairs to help with the Hall of Fame and the awarding of Scholarships. You do not have to be on the board of trustees to be a chair of a committee. The Hall of Fame Selection Committee needs some help this year and will need a chairperson in 2019. We had a record number of nominations this year.…

Discovering that one is a dinosaur is a common occurrence for most people who have lived seven or so decades, and I am one of those in today’s technological world. Yes, I have a cell phone, a clam shell style. And yes, I also have a desktop computer, on which I use email, Word, and the Internet. However, there are many functions inside that screen that I will never explore. Likewise, at least so far, I refuse to invest in anything that has an “i” in front of its name;…

Publisher’s Note: This is another in our series of former students remembering special teachers from their time in the Riverside School District. One Great Teacher Does Make A Difference By Jessica Presutti Biller Dr. Mary Allen Porter once gave me a card that I kept with this quote: There are those whose lives affect all others around them, quietly touching one heart who in turn touches another, reaching out to ends further than they would ever know. As her student, colleague and friend I felt this, and it is the…

A group of veterans wants to honor Riverside alumni who have served in our armed forces by erecting a memorial on campus. Each of the five branches of the military will be represented. This project will start with a set of flags between the field house and football stadium. Local organizations and businesses have already donated the flag poles and the flags to be displayed. The rest of the project will still need approximately $7,000 to finish the outside phase of the tribute. The inside component of the proposed memorial…

Hello folks from your new president of the Alumni Association, Tom Trombley. If my name is familiar it could be because I was on the Riverside School Board from 2000-2008. Or, more likely, because of my three children Andy, Val and Tim, who graduated from Riverside in ’04, ’05 and ’08. During my time on the Board we adjusted the name of the district to the Riverside Local Schools, rebuilt the Stadium, helped with the construction and furnishing of the Fieldhouse and sold the County Home to the Lake County…

2007 was a good year for Josh Edgell and Mark Maltry. That year the lifelong friends realized a longtime dream to start up their own home construction and remodeling company. After graduating from the Construction/Remodeling/Repair programs at Auburn Career Center and Riverside High School in 2000, Maltry and Edgell worked for contractors in Lake and Geauga counties. Seven years of experience gave them enough confidence to venture out on their own. That’s when they formed JEMM Construction. 2008 was not a very good year for the housing industry. That year…
Read MoreWhat Do Alumni Beavers Do Best?
Once a BEAVER, always a BEAVER. What happens when beavers build their homes? They band together and build the strongest, most beautiful home on the river. The year 1984 proved that once an alumni Beaver sets his mind on building something, he and all his alumni Beavers band together to get the job done. That determination is the foundation for how a group of alumni parents, business owners, and teachers formed the Riverside Community Athletic Foundation (RCAF). Their goal was to spark the creation of a private partnership with area…
