Hall of Fame – Athletic Category

In 1996 the first group of athletes and coaches were inducted into the Riverside Hall of Fame. Since that beginning, the athletic division of the Hall of Fame now is home to 26 athletes and eight coaches. The history of athletics on the secondary level in this country has changed over the years and the potential for achievement has increased. Class of 1952 Helps Celebrate Class of 2017

Riverside’s sixty-sixth commencement was held Sunday, June 4, 2017, at Mentor Schools Fine Arts Center. Approximately 300 students received their diplomas. What makes the graduation significant is the date of the commencement. Riverside’s first graduation was for the class of 1952 and it was held 65 years ago on June 4. In recognition of this graduation three members of the class of 1952 led the class of 2017 and faculty into the auditorium. Participating were Howard Davis, James Hayer, and George Hadden. Art Martin (1973) Reaches Kilimanjaro Summit

At the age of 59 Art Martin, Class of 1973, now a practicing cardiologist in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, was training for an Iron Man race and discovered he might have a medical problem. After completion of the race, he was diagnosed with tonsil cancer. Treatment required three doses of chemotherapy and radiation. However, as a result of the first treatment, he lost his hearing. Since his early 50s, Art has been a triathlon athlete and at the age of 59 completed a full Iron Man competition. Then his brother taught him…

2017 Scholarship Recipients

At Riverside’s 2017 commencement ceremony, Wallace Baker Brainard, Jared Bucholtz, Asiah Rusnak, and Mackenzie Wolf each received a $1,000 scholarship from the RHS Alumni Association. In addition to the academic achievements, extra-curricular and community involvement, and the association requiring the writing of a short essay, at least one of each student’s parents/guardians or grandparents must have graduated from RHS. Quick History of Riverside

In 1944 a resolution was passed by the Painesville Township Local Board of Education to build a new combined high school and junior high school. Previous to this time, students in this area had attended high schools in neighboring sections.Because of World War II and the accompanying building shortages, the actual construction was postponed until 1948. The fall session of September, 1949, opened with seventh, eighth, and ninth graders in attendance. In the following school year the enrollment increased to include the tenth and eleventh grades.
