2024 RAA Scholarship Award: Jason Mackey

Two things struck the committee that evaluated Jason for the scholarship. First is we had to go back to 9th grade to see the only “B” on his transcript, and the rest of his grades earned an Honors Diploma at graduation. Second is the extensive involvement in the Riverside community not only by Jason but his entire family.

The son of Billy and Janesse Mackey, both of whom graduated from Riverside, (his mother is an elementary teacher in the district), Jason has committed himself to excelling in the classroom, excelling in athletics, and excelling in volunteerism at Riverside.

While Jason ran track and earned Varsity letters in freshman and sophomore years, it is Football where he really made an outstanding contribution. A 3-year letterman, a team captain, and multiple conference awards, All County, All District, and All State attest to his abilities.

Volunteering as a counselor for LaMuth 6th graders in both his junior and senior years gave him many opportunities to be a positive role model. He also organized a youth football camp for his community.

Jason took a business class at Riverside and did so well he requested he be able to return in his senior year as a manager for the spirit shop. His work experience includes being a driver for a pizza shop, working as a cashier for a grocery store, and working as a cart boy at Little Mountain Country Club.

Jason will attend Ohio State University in the Fisher School of Business with the goal of owning his own business. His work ethic, experiences he has had, and his dedication to being the best he can be will serve him well in reaching his goals.

We will look forward to hearing positive reports as Jason pursues his dreams.
