2024 RAA Scholarship Award: Benjamin Weiss

Benjamin Weiss is an unusual Alumni Scholarship winner. While most winners are off to their chosen university in the fall, Ben will be in Infantry Basic/AIT training in Georgia with the Army National Guard. In January he will then attend Ohio State University and continue his military commitment by being in Army ROTC. He is planning on majoring in engineering.

Ben is the son of Christian Weiss and Kelly Brooks Smith who share custody of their three sons. Graduating in the top 10% of this class with a 4.2 GPA, he is a two-year member of National Honor Society and was in Junior NHS as well. He received an Honors Diploma, was a scholar athlete and was RHS’s representative to the Lake County Touchdown Club Athlete of the Year. He was also selected to participate in LAB (Learning about Business).

A contributing member of the Riverside community, Ben played Varsity Football as a starting left guard as well as accumulating hundreds of hours of service. Ben was involved in all the levels of scouting starting as a Cub Scout and eventually earning his Eagle Scout rank. He has also been a junior ski patrol member for five years.

Ben and his brothers operate a landscaping business. He has learned various construction skills from his Dad and his participation in 4-H for ten years. He demonstrated those skills by building the baseball dugouts at LaMuth Middle School as his Eagle Scout project.

We wish Ben success in all his endeavors, both in the military and at OSU.
