2023 RAA Scholarship Awards

Jenna Leonard

Riverside Alumni Association scholarship recipient Jenna Leonard is the daughter of Tim and Julie Leonard. Jenna plans to continue her education at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. An honor student at Riverside, she was awarded an honors diploma and was a 2-year member of the National Honor Society. Jenna has received honors awards throughout high school, each semester.

She was a four-year member of the swim team. Her event of choice was the butterfly, where she placed in several swim meets. She was part of the 200 free relay team, who set a school record during her freshman year. Jenna was also a three-year member of the track team as a hurdler. She served as an athletic trainer for three years for several teams at Riverside. Based on her personal qualities and responsibilities, she was chosen as a middle school camp counselor.

One activity Jenna pursued in school during her junior and senior year was working as a photographer and editor for the school yearbook. This activity helped  define her college pursuit, where she has established a role to begin in the fall at Miami. She will be working with the Digital Design and Football Video Operations Director and his team, pursuing her education in Sports Communications and Media. Her employment has been chiefly during the summers when she has been a caddy at Sand Ridge Golf course and a public pool lifeguard.

Given Jenna’s current accomplishments, it seems she has the foundation to be successful in the pursuit of her studies at Miami and in her eventual career.

Amelia Matejka

Amelia Matejka is a recipient of the Riverside Alumni Scholarship and will be attending The University of Kentucky to pursue nursing. Her choice was motivated by the reputation of the program and the fact that the UK HealthCare system and Kentucky Children’s Hospital are on the campus, providing many rich opportunities for her.

The daughter of Michael and Karie Matejka, she has two older siblings: Alexa, a first-year Riverside preschool teacher, and Michael, who is entering his junior year at OSU. Her mother is a fifth grade teacher at Parkside Elementary.

Her Riverside activities included cross country and track, where she received numerous athletic awards, service on the Student Council and three years in National Honor Society.  Amelia received an honors diploma at graduation and is a member of #1 Club (top 10%) of the seniors.

Amelia has been employed by Kuurlee Kone in Fairport and worked there for two summers. She began working at Heinen’s in November of 2021 and continues there.

Amelia's future at UK is obviously bright, and with her demonstrated determination, she should be highly successful.
