Emma Kovalchuk was selected as an RHS Alumni Scholarship recipient for the 2022 class. She is the daughter of John and April Tuuri (Class of 1989) Kovalchuk. She will be attending Lake Erie College as a pre-law major. She chose LEC partly because of its affiliation with Duquesne University Law School. A program between the two schools offers a fast-track, pre-law advantage, enabling one to earn a juris prudence degree in six years rather than the usual eight. Emma has also committed to playing softball at LEC.
Emma is the youngest of four children. Her sister Sara is studying early childhood education at the University of Cincinnati. Jessica, her oldest sister, is a graduate of Ohio State University and now a radiation technician for the Cleveland Clinic. Her brother Jeremy graduated from the University of Akron with a major in Information Technology.
Emma describes her family as having a strong bond built on respect, love and trust. All are actively involved in supporting each other in their endeavors.
At Riverside, Emma has excelled academically and been inducted into National Honor Society as a sophomore. Through NHS she participated in many volunteer opportunities, one being “Halls of Holly”, a holiday event for young children. She took part in Winterfest, a new event in which NHS members went to elementary schools and engaged the children with games. She also led eighth grade orientation groups. Her homemade cookies made her very popular at local fire stations, where she took the treats during Co-vid shut-downs.
As an athletic trainer aide, Emma learned many new skills and was a 4-year varsity fast-pitch softball player and captain of her traveling softball team. Her travel team coach credits her as being “one of the top softball players in Ohio.”
The RHS Alumni Association is proud of Emma’s accomplishments and wishes her well at LEC and beyond.
