President’s Message

Hello, Folks. Hope you had a Black and Gold Christmas or Hanukkah, and New Year’s day. Things are quiet on the association front for now. But we had a good 2019 and are looking forward to a fun and active 2020. The Hall of Fame induction ceremony went very well thanks in large part to the efforts of Marijane Watson. From organizing the selection committees to spearheading the selection of the new members and playing the hostess with the mostest, she carries it all out expertly and makes it appear…

Class of 1962 75th Birthday Party, August 2019: Bob Mills ’62

Guest Author: Bob Mills ’62 The Class of 1962 celebrated our collective 75th birthdays this past August with a golf outing, a picnic at Hidden Lake Shelter, and a mixer at Pickle Bill’s.  While our numbers have diminished as the years go by, those attending had a pleasurable experience. As part of the celebration, a group of classmates enjoyed a round of golf at the Pine Ridge Country Club near Wickliffe. During the round David Smead (a past member of Riverside’s golf team) performed the ultimate shot every golfer dreams…

Memories of Hale Road Elementary: Kevin Clark ’75

Guest Author: Kevin Clark ’75 I grew up in Painesville Township Park. Most of us in the family went through Hale Road School, six boys and one girl.  I was a twin.  My poor mother really had her hands full with us twin boys, “Mom’s Angels.”  What a fun time in our household – never a dull moment. Things I remember fondly of Hale Road Elementary School, 1963-1968 include: Fallout shelter, storm and bomb drills: We would hear the bells continue to ring, and we would line up and walk in…

I Led Two Lives at Hale Road School: Elaine Martin Uonelli ’59

Guest Author: Elaine Martin Uonelli ’59 I was enrolled in the 4th grade at Nursery School in 1950, now known as Hale Road School. At that time Mr. Kendle was principal, and I was always impressed by his portrait mounted outside the school office. The infirmary was a small room on the second floor, equipped with a sink, a cot, a medicine cabinet, a chair and desk for the school nurse. In addition to its original function, the gym served as the lunchroom, and sometimes it was used as an…

So, You Are Organizing a Class Reunion

Congratulations! You are undertaking an enormous task handling mailing lists, venue selection, menu selection, reservations, head-counts, budget balancing, keepsakes, hotel arrangements, transportation options, class members who want to help, classmates who don’t want any communication, getting the word out, making name tags and so much more. It sounds overwhelming but it need not be. Certainly, a strong committee can help shoulder the load. And there are resources available. Of course, a good rule of thumb is to start early. The Alumni website has three way to help. First, there is…

Three Generations of Cheerleaders at Homecoming: Sheri Dolan Sanders ’80

Guest Author: Sheri Dolan Sanders ’80 As a 1980 RHS graduate, I have always enjoyed RHS Homecoming and seeing the alumni of the band, twirlers, dance team and cheerleaders come back for alumni night at the football game. My daughter Carly Sanders is a Riverside senior this year (class of 2020)  and she comes from a long line of RHS cheerleaders. I was a cheerleader in my day, and so was my mother, Judy Lukshaw Dolan, class of 1959. Last year, Carly asked if I would cheer with her for…
