A group of veterans wants to honor Riverside alumni who have served in our armed forces by erecting a memorial on campus. Each of the five branches of the military will be represented.
This project will start with a set of flags between the field house and football stadium. Local organizations and businesses have already donated the flag poles and the flags to be displayed. The rest of the project will still need approximately $7,000 to finish the outside phase of the tribute.
The inside component of the proposed memorial will consist of an interactive video display that will be located somewhere in the school. This display will list the Riverside alumni who have served in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard.
The high school is partnering with local veterans organizations to enlist the help of the community in compiling a list of the individuals. The Alumni Association will help as well.
According to a story in the Pipeline, a district newsletter for the community, “Riverside High School is proud of all the men and women who chose to serve our country as members of the United States Armed Forces.”
The biggest need now is for flag foundation funding. Donations can be made to Riverside Veterans Monument Display Activity Fund. If you have any questions or comments, please call 440-537-6511.
This memorial is an amazing way to honor the Riverside alumni vets. I served in the army after graduating in 2009. I’m interested in helping with this if I’m able to please contact me if there is anyway I can help.
